Clearwater Florida (August 10, 2020) Today’s warehouse needs to be able to operate with greater flexibility and be able to handle dramatically increased order volume at much higher speed.  Datex developers focused on creating a better way to meet these needs while putting the power of flexibility into the hands of authorized software users.  This gives companies using Datex Footprint® WMS a distinct competitive advantage, enabling them to make changes to software without the time and cost of enlisting the aid of the software vendor.

Renowned for its agility, the Datex warehouse management system is workflow-driven.  Datex has layered a rules engine on top of the query feature.  This ensures that authorized software users can incorporate conditions and actions, setting up rules to identify specific criteria then take action against them.     The business rules engine is a set of conditions within the WMS capable of executing application code if the required conditions are met. In other words, the rules engine relies on established criteria to govern WMS behavior within the established parameters.  The WMS makes autonomous decisions based on the established rules and triggers action when the established set of conditions are met.  This reduces the time associated with complex decision making.  Able to handle complicated scenarios effortlessly, the system can automatically check multiple rules prior to approval.

Here are a few ways that the Datex rules engine can be used:

Shipping Process:

  • Rules can be established for specific order handling to meet the shipper’s guidelines for shipping certain types of goods via overnight versus ground delivery.
  • For temperature-controlled goods in an order, rules can be set up to require the inclusion of a cold pack in the shipment.

Order fulfillment:

  • For regulated goods, such as alcoholic beverages, rules can be established to validate that it is legal to ship a specific type of alcoholic beverage from one geographic location to a consumer in another state.

The Datex rules engine is the latest in a series of innovations introduced to empower WMS clients to make changes to the warehouse management system independent of the software developer.
