UPS Announces 7-Day a Week Delivery

Two months after FedEx announced that it was moving to a 7-day a week delivery schedule, UPS made a similar pronouncement.  As of January 1, 2020, UPS will be delivering packages 7 days a week and has arranged for its subsidiary, UPS Flight Forward to deliver packages via drones.  The move is being made to ensure its continued competitive position in an industry fueled by online shopping sales.

Additional announcements by UPS introduced new products and services to aid customers grow and thrive.  The new UPS My Choice for Business solution builds on the foundation of the UPS My Choice for home solution which has 60 million members.  The new solution provides a suite of tools for businesses to facilitate the monitoring, planning and controlling of deliveries and outgoing shipments.  The company increased UPS Access Point Network by 12,000 new locations and launched new Worldwide Economy Product to target the increased demand for lower-priced International Deferred Shipping Options.

Microsoft Revealed Its $1Billion in an AI Company Backed by Elon Musk

Two companies concerned about the role of artificial intelligence in the world have joined forces.  Microsoft Corporation and OpenAI, founded in 2015 by Elon Musk and Sam Altman have agreed to partner to extend Microsoft Azure’s capabilities in large-scale AI systems.  Focused on secure, ethical, trustworthy artificial intelligence, the partnership is geared to accelerate breakthroughs in AI and to create artificial general intelligence (AGI).

The partnership will concentrate on building a computational platform in Azure on a vast scale.  This will train and run progressively advanced AI models, including hardware technologies which build on Microsoft’s supercomputing capabilities.  Emphasis will be placed on adhering to the partners’ shared principles of trust and ethics.

EBay to Launch New End-to-End Delivery Service in 2020

EBay recently announced a new program that will enable high-volume sellers to store, pack and deliver orders via a network of pre-approved third party vendors strategically positioned across the United States.  High velocity sellers will be able to use the program which will be managed through a global technology platform.  Third party partners will run the operations.

For years, EBay has been besieged by requests from high volume sellers for ways to make delivery fast and easy for goods including fashion, electronics and home and garden.  All boxes used for this program will be eBay branded and the orders will be trackable by both buyers and sellers.
