Ontario, California (August 7, 2006) - Datex International appeared on the special section to Pacific Shipper on an article called “West Coast Warehouse and Distribution Centers – moving beyond the coast”. The article which appeared on the July 17, 2006 Edition of Pacific Shipper, a weekly magazine for logistics professionals who are responsible for international movement of freight, with an emphasis on West Coast operations and trans-Pacific trade lanes, presented how companies are looking for different alternatives when it comes to establishing warehouses and distribution centers as the land near the coast and ports continues to fill up.
Datex International expands its presence to the west coast with offices in Ontario, California. With the volume of products coming through the ports of Los Angeles-Long Beach, more and more companies and third party logistics providers are looking to place their warehouses and distribution centers close to the piers. But with the amount of land falling short for new developments, businesses need to find new places to continue expanding their operations. This has transformed the Inland Empire as one of the largest distribution hubs in the U.S. served by countless warehouses and import distribution facilities. The Inland Empire refers to the region located approximately 37 miles from the Pacific Ocean and east of downtown Los Angeles. It includes the counties of Riverside and San Bernardino, as well as the easternmost portion of Los Angeles. This area provides a larger available space for new developments at a considerable short distance from the ports where all the products are shipped to and from.
In the article, that included interviews with two realty companies that agreed about the necessity to diversify the development of new Warehouses and Distribution Centers toward new areas, Datex International was able to provide its opinion from the technological point of view. Vice-president for sales at Datex, Michael Armanious, gave his opinion on this trend of moving toward the Inland Empire and other areas away from the main port of Los Angeles. “The Inland Empire has impacted our business plan for 2008. We have technical salespeople focused on the area and we feel strongly that it will be an area of exponential growth, especially for technology. Our role as an organization is to provide solutions for the implementation of the technology, such as Warehouse Management System and professional services. We assist warehouses and distribution centers to run processes as efficient as possible”. Datex plans to increase its West Coast presence by about 300 percent over the next year. In fact, 70 percent of the company’s new business has been from Southern California-based companies because of the amount of 3PL space available there. The company has recently hosted a conference in Ontario, California and plans to host another one by the end of September on the implementation of barcoding and RFID Technology. “I think that RFID trend is becoming more of a reality. Five years ago, it was a conceptual reality, and I think that we’ll see more warehouses utilizing this technology on a daily basis” commented Mr. Armanious.
